CASE STUDY

Helping Manage the Nation’s Defense Information Network Services

The Consolidated Database Architecture (CDBA) consists of three systems that manage DoD network connections. These web-enabled systems support the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Network Services (NS) Enterprise Connection Division (NSC) mission to collect, track, monitor, and report DoD and non-DoD data related to information assurance compliance. DISA selected BE to provide program-level leadership and technical expertise for operations and maintenance (O&M) of this critical database architecture and related systems and environments, including integration of new code and technologies into production and Continuity of Operations (COOP) environments. We also provided design, implementation, O&M, technical support, configuration management, and data integration of three custom web applications.

Working collaboratively with the government, we generated Computer-Based Training (CBT) modules for end users. We converted user guides into integrated, context-sensitive online help within an application, reducing the turn-around time required to update system documentation and improving the end user experience. We used continuous integration to support rapid unit testing to quickly check software builds and changes, reducing time finding and fixing errors and provided functionality to the customer on a regular, rapid pace. We also introduced testing tools that enabled automated tests to be created, managed, executed, and recorded. BE recommended and implemented a change request process for the end user community via the DISA SharePoint site that eased the strain on customer and development team resources.
